South London Ordnance did a great job at the recent Hotflush Boiler Room. This has been on repeat:

George Fitzgerald – Thinking Of You
06. March 2013

artworks-000042123019-0txt82-largeHeard this new one from George Fitzgerald yet? He’s doing so well so far this year, after what was a pretty successful 2012 too. Release on some of the best House labels around and now he comes back to his mainstay, Hotflush, with a stomper.

Das Ding – H.S.T.A
06. March 2013

Capture

Heard this on Boiler Room last night when Omar S and Kyle Hall played back-to-back and I fell in love. Then I fell in love even more when I heard the story behind it.

“When Das Ding = Danny Bosten recorded this in his parents house in Holland, drew his own cover, made some copies in his papa’s office, folded them into some C20 tape cassettes, and sold in total about? 10 cassettes to his university friends, I suppose he couldn’t imagine this song would be completly unknown in 30 years, and then suddenly be listened to by 12662 people from all over the world through a global computer network…”

A1 Bassline – Trip Over [Pets Recordings]
25. January 2013

Where does Christian Sibthorpe belong!? The man’s been on pretty much every decent label out there. Strictly Rhythm to Domino, Mixpak to Southern Fried, Dirtybird to… Pets Recordings. The last two make sense in terms of transition, add Anabatic in there and it’s like a little bass house family.

May I just remind you all of this:

He can produce a record to fit in with what’s in season so so well. I think he does have that unique A1 bassline to his tracks too, which is hard to do when your music productions are growing up. That’s it though, we’ve witnessed A1 Bassline grow up. From a small teenager making wobbly music that took the ‘fidget’ world by storm, and now as a post-graduate making smarter, tidier and more sophisticated records that are getting releases on some of the biggest labels in the world.

So proud.

Ruff Hauser – Paul Bunyun EP [Anabatic]
24. January 2013

Worthy’s Anabatic label is consistently good at releasing ‘booty bass’ anthems, the label is very much known for that style. I like to think of it as a sister to Dirtybird, they are great friends anyway, you can see the influences between each family.

The latest EP by Ruff Hauser explores the ‘garage’ side of chugging yet bouncy bass house. There’s plenty of room-sweeping bass swings, which seems to be a trend going into 2013. The drums come across quite garage-y, maybe even Breaks. Which all contributes to my theory that Breaks will definitely be back by the end of the year. Please, please be back.

Foals – My Number (T-E-E-D Remix)
15. January 2013

artworks-000038358505-wq4pfj-t500x500Foals are a band that consistently get better with each release, like say, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs as a producer. Both are some of the most innovative artists of the past few years, I think it’s safe to say. So when T-E-E-D get’s his hands on the latest Foals single, it’s almost too good to be true. I mean to expect so much from this happening, it’s surely going to be pants. It’s always the way. Well, no, this is fantastic.

This is the music that shaped my years of learning to DJ in Sheffield. This is proper electronic house music, with a 2013 touch. Listen how it’s evolved from 2005, listen to it’s beauty and proud demeanour. Sophisticated, tidy, smart. This is what electro in 2006 grew up to be, in it’s first job out of Uni.

Fion – More Than Ever [Fhinq Music]
10. January 2013

Screen Shot 2013-01-10 at 20.36.42I reckon this is how music would sound if I made it. It’s got everything I love in it, bass, a good groove and catchy vocal. This production however, is done by 22 year old Fion. He’s another Irish producer, so I guess that means he’ll undoubtedly have a huge year ahead of him, Ireland can do no wrong at the minute. There’s something in the air over there I swear.

This track will see a release through, I assume, a free compilation from free music promotion team Fhinq.

It’s only seen the light of day about two hours and the boys with ears of gold over at Eton Messy have scooped it up for their 20,000 strong subscribers to eat up. Big things for Fion, that’s my prediction.

Squarehead – Elegante / Now Is Good OUT NOW on 12″ [5ANDSEVEN]
09. January 2013

Screen Shot 2013-01-09 at 18.05.33

One of my most anticipated releases of last year, the debut record on the fantastic looking 5andseven label. Two tracks feature from one of the hottest tipped producers of this coming year, Squarehead.

Squarehead had a fantastic 2012 building up his profile with releases on the infamous Wolf Music label and the incredible Pets Recordings. As a producer of House music, he adds enough outside elements to make a classic sound new and exciting again. His influences are heavily Sheffield, so imagine garage, funky, bass and those industrial techno elements.

Check out a preview below, and get the order in from the 5andseven store;

Typesun – The PL (Behling & Simpson Remix)
09. January 2013

Screen Shot 2013-01-09 at 17.58.26

Happy new year everybody, I hope this year brings less made-up genres and over-saturating of sounds, and more innovation and talent in the world of House music. Who’s with me?

This remix I’m sharing today, I’ve been banging on about since I heard it in a mix they did in APRIL last year. I quizzed them about it on Facebook, and I got a ‘…soon’ response. Fair enough, but it wasn’t soon at all! I got the promo for this last week, but I have to say it added that extra bit of special-ness to my holidays.

Behling & Simpson do just what was needed from a remix here. The soul isn’t lost and the groove is multiplied. The element of ‘jack’ is present enough for a foot shuffle and subtle enough to warm you up. One of my favourite records of recent times, so please, eat it up.

January 14th see’s the release, out on Root Elevation in 12″ and digital formats.

Ejeca – Krunk EP [W&O Street Tracks]
05. December 2012

Following on from Waze & Odyssey’s Juno chart topping ‘Love That Burns (Hot Enough)’ 12″, W&O Street Tracks have today released the ‘Krunk EP’ by EJECA, an EP so hot and in demand Juno are limiting it to one copy per customer.

Fast becoming one of the UK’s most talked about producers, EJECA has had a busy past few months recently making his Fabric debut, collaboring with his fellow countrymen Bicep for a release on Aus, and scoring a DJ Mag ‘Killer’ single of the month with ‘Horizon’ released on Need/Want.

That new EP has been one of the biggest tracks around this autumn, with everyone from Pete Tong to Skream & Benga raving about it, and has cemented his position as one to keep a very close eye on as we head into 2013.
